Academic Design
Space Research Lab
The Center for Space Research (CSR) is a renovation of the 6th floor of Building 37 at MIT. CSR supports research in space science and engineering, astrophysics and astronomy in addition to playing a leading role in the design of instruments placed aboard NASA space crafts. In an effort to attract first class faculty and students to MIT, the design goal was to create an identity for the center while promoting interaction between various user groups. The realized design utilizes sloping metal ceilings with open areas and glass walls to allow daylight into the central spaces.
